Overview

Hermes is a mixed reality application for Meta Quest 3, designed for interactive exhibition stands. It adds virtual presentations, videos and 3D content directly into the physical exhibition space, allowing companies to showcase digital products without bringing their physical counterparts to the event.

Solution

The application works with spatial anchors that allow the headset to recognize and restore predefined content positions. After an operator configures an exhibition space, the same virtual objects can be placed at their assigned locations each time the application is launched.

Hermes has two operating modes:

  • Operator Mode - the exhibition staff can create points of interest, set their position and scale, and assign content or interactions from the available library.
  • Viewer Mode - visitors can explore the prepared content without controllers.

The system detects the closest point of interest and plays only its audio, preventing overlapping sound from multiple presentations.
This approach allows exhibition teams to prepare the entire experience in advance while keeping interaction simple for visitors who may have little or no XR experience.

Key Features

  • Spatial Anchors - restore virtual content at predefined locations.
  • 3D Content Presentation - showcase expensive or large-scale virtual objects without transporting physical prototypes.
  • Virtual Presentation Screens - create large presentation surfaces directly within the exhibition space.
  • Video & Slide Presentations - display multimedia content as part of the physical stand.
  • Interactive 3D Objects - configure animations and interactions for individual points of interest.
  • Controller-Free Viewing - visitors can explore the experience without additional hardware.
  • Proximity-Based Audio - only the nearest active presentation plays its sound.

Technical Details

Platform: Meta Quest 3
Technologies: Unity, Meta XR SDK, AVPro

Outcome

Hermes combines spatial anchoring with a simple operator workflow to turn a physical exhibition stand into an interactive mixed reality presentation space. It provides a practical way to demonstrate products, large-scale objects and multimedia content while keeping the visitor experience accessible and easy to navigate.
